The Renton Film Frenzy returns to Downtown Renton!

What is the Renton Film Frenzy?

Are you a digital content creator that laid dormant during pandemic? Ready to flex those creative muscles? The Seattle Film Summit is proud to partner with the city of Renton and provide an opportunity to get creative, build community, and refine your production skill sets. Professionals, amateurs, and students – your time to shine is here. 

The City of Renton wants you to make your mark on our Community. The Renton Film Frenzy is a 72 hour film challenge for filmmakers to partner with a local Renton organization, make a 7 minute or less piece of content that reflects the personal style of the filmmaker, the values of the partnered organization, and the diversity of the City of Renton. 

The bonus: Your content will be screened at the Seattle Film Summit! The Northwest’s largest film industry event.

How Does The Challenge Work? 

Make a film/digital marketing piece in 72 hours – 3 days – Thursday, October 6 – Sunday, October 9 that highlights your personal creative perspective, and draws from Renton’s history, scenery, and most importantly the diversity of its organizations and residents . 

The challenge – you don’t know the partner organization of your film until two weeks before the clock starts ticking!

  3. Review the detailed instructions & tips that will be sent after registration.*

*Instructions will introduce you to the Renton’s vibrant community of businesses & organizations; one of which you will be paired with for the Frenzy.  During the weeks leading up to the challenge, teams will consult with their partner organizations, scout locations and put everything in place for the filmmaking weekend.

Eligibility 

To register for the Renton Film Frenzy, follow the instructions found on www.rentonfilmfrenzy.com. Registration is based on a first-come first-served basis. Registration fees are $75 per team in the NOVICE category and $40 per team in the STUDENT (21-) category. Bonus: Stay a night in Renton (send proof of your booking to thrive@rentonwa.gov) and your registration fees are waived!

Official Filmmaking Period

72 hours – 3 days. The challenge will begin on Thursday, October 6th at 5:00 PM, when filmmakers receive their final mystery element, and ends on Sunday, October 9th at 5 PM. All entries must be submitted via email as a downloadable link.

You are tasked with showcasing your personal creative perspective and highlighting a provided Renton organization (partner). You are also asked to draw from Renton’s history, scenery, and most importantly our diversity and culture.

Minors

Some of the events (e.g., Kickoff, Drop Off) may be held in “21 years of age or older” locations. Every effort will be made to ensure that any under 21 teams will not be affected adversely. Entrants may wish to consider having at least one member of its team be 21 years or older.

Team Representative Agreement

Entrants will be required to sign the standard Team Representative Agreement. If under the legal age, your parent or legal guardian must sign it on your behalf. As a condition of entry, participants must agree to the Team Representative Agreement, which sets forth the agreement between the entering team and the City of Renton. Entries that do not include all required information will be considered void and disqualified from participation.

Production Costs

All production expenses are solely the responsibility of the registering team.

Judging of Entries

Entries will be judged by a process in which qualified panels of judges will evaluate the eligible entries based on the following judging criteria:

  • Artistic Value (Story, Creativity, Fundamentals) (40%)
  • Technical Merit (30%)
  • Capturing the ethos of your partner organization (30%)

Kickoff Event

A team representative must be present at the designated times at the designated events to participate. Details including time and location will be sent to the participating teams. 

Designated Team Representative

Each team is required to designate one (1) person as the Team Representative, agree to the Official Rules, sign the Team Representative Agreement and accept the prize on behalf of the group. RFF is not liable for any disputes between team members or collaborators on this project.

Awards will be handed out to the best films in the following categories.

  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Director

General Conditions

Participation means that teams agree to these Official Rules in all respects.

Limitations of Liability and Release

No liability or responsibility is assumed by the RFF for any logistical or technical difficulties that prevent or complicate downloading, uploading, or delivery of content to RFF. Use of Web Site and RFF social media sites is at user’s own risk. By participating in the RFF, teams agree to release, indemnify and hold RFF harmless from any and all claims, damages or liabilities arising from or relating to participation in the competition.

Challenge Launch

The Renton Film Frenzy will begin on Wednesday, October 5, 2022 with a producer launch and celebration.

Here you will receive:

  • Detailed instructions
  • Any required elements not already assigned
  • Filmmakers have 72 hours to write, shoot and edit their film

Filming: 72 Hours of no sleep

Your anticipated weekend schedule will look something like this:

  • Thursday Night: Write the script, gather costumes & props
  • Friday/Saturday: Production
  • Sunday: Editing and Drop-off – it’s time to complete your film

Sunday Night Drop Off

Teams must submit their film along with the required paperwork by 5:00pm on Sunday, October 9th. All films are screened, but any late films lose their opportunity to be considered for awards.
 

Premiere Screening at the Renton Civic Theatre

It’s what we all want. A screening of our content on the big screen. Every entry (both late and on-time) will be screened! Filmmakers experience the thrill of seeing their creative work on the big screen in front of an audience of their peers.  The screening is scheduled for Friday, October 14.
