Hi there, my name is Peggy Lee and I am the Education and Outreach Coordinator for Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group working on salmon recovery in the Cedar River Watershed. We are recruiting for our 2023 Community Action Training School (C.A.T.S.) Participants. We will meet and learn from professionals doing salmon recovery (a local Green Jobs connection) and get the opportunity to learn how to get involved or get students involved in volunteer or citizen science projects. We want to inspire our participants to become salmon stewards in their communities.
CATS empowers community members to be the change they want to see in the watershed. We offer a robust series of classes & field experiences that address important scientific, policy, social and cultural issues related to watershed health and salmon recovery—including water quality, native plants, tribal treaty rights, barriers, and climate—and supports attendees in the design and implementation of stewardship action projects (50+ hours) within their own communities. The course culminates in a symposium where participants are able to share their projects with the larger community, representatives from local organizations, and prior CATS cohorts.
We want to strengthen our reach and was wondering if you might want to help post the attached flier for this FREE professional development? Might be at your location, via listserv, social media, or what have you. We really appreciate your support and welcome anyone who is interested in becoming a salmon steward.
This year, our C.A.T.S. Program will be taking place at the Renton Library. We have limited space, but thought that districts, administrators, teachers and even students might be interested. This class meets approximately 12 times (8 classes and 3 field trips, and symposium/graduation) between May and October. To meet the needs of our working participants, these classes are in the evening, 2 hours (5:30-7:30) but less than 2x a month. I greatly appreciate your time and think that this would be an AMAZING fit for your community.
Thank you so much for your time. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need additional information or would like clarification on anything. To learn more about the program please visit: https://www.midsoundfisheries.org/wria-8-community-action-training-school-webpage/
